Center for Design Practice

The Center for Design Practice is a multi-disciplinary studio dedicated to preparing the next generation of design leaders by bringing students together with outside organizations committed to education, collaboration, and pursuing ideas with solutions not yet defined.

 Through multi-disciplinary, project-based learning, the CDP engages in socially conscious projects using design to translate ideas into tangible outcomes with the goal of changing behaviors and making a positive impact on society.

More than 100 MICA students and faculty have participated in projects from a variety of disciplines including: Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Video, MAT, Interaction Design & Art, Illustration, Animation, Sculpture, Curatorial Studies, Art History.

Current and past CDP partners include Arts Every Day, Baltimore City Health Department, Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore Health Care Access, City of
Baltimore, Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems (bSAS, Inc.), Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Great Kids Farm, HERO, JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health, JHU Center for Child & Community Health Research, JHU Center for Injury Research and Policy, Ken's Kids, Inc., Maryland Energy Administration, Real Food Farm, University of Maryland, Neighborhood Design Center, Whole Foods Market.
