How does my student learn about Commencement?
Graduating seniors are required to attend a Commencement Information Meeting on February 4, 2013, in Falvey Hall, Brown Center. There are two meetings: one at 3 pm and one at 5 pm - students must attend one of the two meetings. All materials about graduating and the Commencement ceremony are distributed to students at this meeting. If a student misses the meeting, they can pick up all the materials at the Student Activities Office in the Meyerhoff House. It is also essential that your student have their updated address and email information on file at MICA. Please encourage them to update their contact information on the web portal. As the semester goes on, they will receive important email updates and reminders. Please encourage your student to read their email.
When and where is the Undergraduate Commencement ceremony?
The Commencement ceremony is on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 1 pm in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, just south of the Mt. Royal Station. The doors will open at 12 pm and guests need to be seated before the procession begins at 1 pm. There are three paid parking garages very close to Symphony Hall: Fitzgerald Garage located on Oliver Street at Mt. Royal Avenue; Cathedral Street Garage, at the corner of Preston and Cathedral Streets diagonal from Symphony Hall; and Symphony Center Garage, located across Park Avenue from Symphony Hall. Your graduate will receive a map with the parking garages highlighted at the student briefing on the Friday before Commencement.
There is a reception for graduates and their families immediately following the ceremony at the Cohen Plaza, in front of the Brown Center.
How many people can attend the Commencement ceremony?
The Commencement Ceremony is a ticketed event. All graduating students will receive five (5) guest tickets. Graduates do not require a ticket for entrance. This will guarantee all graduates that their families will have seats. The Commencement 2013 Exhibition Reception on Sunday is not a ticketed event, and all family and friends are welcome to attend.
How can my student pick up Commencement tickets?
Students must pick up their five (5) guest tickets during Monday - Wednesday, March 25 - 27. There will be a ticket distribution table in the atrium of the Brown Center, from 11 am - 1 pm and 4 pm - 6 pm daily. Tickets not claimed during the pickup week will be made available on Friday, March 29, on a first-come, first-served basis, with each graduating student potentially eligible to receive a maximum of three (3) additional tickets. On March 29, the ticket distribution table will be in the atrium of the Brown Center, from 3 pm - 5 pm.
What happens if a guest needs special accommodations?

What is the Commencement Exhibition Reception?
On Sunday afternoon, May 19, from 1:30-5 pm, friends and family members are invited to the campus-wide Commencement 2013 Exhibition Reception. The exhibition encompasses not only all of the College's traditional gallery spaces of Decker, Meyerhoff, Pinkard and Main, but also the studios, classrooms, and hallways in the academic buildings, which will be converted into gallery spaces. There will be performance art, readings, and screenings throughout this exciting afternoon. The Commencement Exhibition is up from May 17-20. The gallery hours include: Friday, May 17, 11 am - 8 pm; Saturday, May 18, 11 am- 5 pm; Sunday, May 19, 11 am - 5 pm; and Monday, May 20, 11 am- 5 pm.
How can my student order graduation announcements?
Students can order personalized graduation announcements through the Herff Jones Company. Simply visit the website: http://store.mica.edu/SiteText.aspx?id=6474
Graduation announcements are separate from the tickets mentioned above. These can be distributed to friends and family, as a way to announce the graduation of your student.
How can I order Commencement photos from the ceremony?
During the ceremony, the Northeast Photo Network will take photos of each graduating student. Students will be mailed a proof of their individual graduation photo for purchase. This will be sent two to three weeks after the ceremony to their permanent address (as last listed with MICA) by Northeast Photo Network. There will also be an opportunity in this mailing to purchase a video of the ceremony. If parents or students don't want to wait for the mailing, they can order their individual photo and candid shots from graduation online at http://www.partypics.com/ , password MICA. If you have any other specific questions about photos, you may call Northeast Photo Network at 1-800-929-7427. Please know that May and June are a busy time for the company due to the number of graduations occurring in the area.
How can my student order regalia?
Students have the option of wearing a gown, beret, or their own choice of clothing. Students indicate their preferences on their Application for Graduation due online on March 15, 2013. There is no charge to rent the gown and beret. However, many students (or their families) like to purchase a handmade beret for $30. To order, they must indicate the purchase on their order form, and we have the beret made for them. When they pick up their regalia, they can pay for the beret with cash, check, or they may charge their student account deposit.
