June 22 – July 14, 2013
This 2-credit experience focuses on Drawing and Painting the Tuscan Landscape in the Monte Amiata region of Tuscany. Located in Italy's province of Grosseto, the Monte Amiata region is a visually stunning location, boasting a beautifully diverse landscape of valleys and foothills dotted with medieval hamlets. Drawing and Painting the Tuscan Landscape, a course individualized to each student's experience, allows students to work in a variety of materials with an emphasis on acrylic painting. Students will learn about art in the birthplace of the Renaissance and enjoy field trips to Florence and other cultural venues to explore classical and contemporary art. Student lodging is in Le Puscine, a former poderina (small farm) near Montelaterone. Pre-College students and staff are the sole guests of Le Puscine during the program. The program begins with a pre-trip orientation on MICA's campus before students depart for Italy together with a program staff member.
