A message from President Samuel Hoi
As the oldest continuously degree-granting college of art and design in the United States, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is at the forefront of art and design education with an international reputation. With a mission to empower our students to forge creative, purposeful lives and careers in a diverse and changing world, we take great pride in the excellence of our faculty, the quality of our students, and the accomplishments of our alumni. MICA’s undergraduate curricula, with 26 programs of study, span the traditional to the cutting edge—from analog fine arts and design to digital media, encouraging students to mix and match for customization. Recognized in the top 10 graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report, graduate students pursue their work within a dynamic network of 20 specialized programs.
On both undergraduate and graduate levels, a MICA education balances creativity, innovation, personal development, and career preparation. Faculty, artists-in-residence, and visiting artists offer individualized critiques and mentorship to uniquely shape each student’s experience.
Our caring culture honors each student’s ideas and vision while fostering learning experiences that allow our students to challenge their own assumptions, take risks, and transform their work. And the studios, workspaces, and fabrication labs provide the space, technology, and equipment necessary for students to expand their artistic practices.
We welcome you to join MICA’s best and brightest talent and MAKE the world you imagine.
Sincerely,
Samuel Hoi
President
