Statement
Ms. Murray’s Art Class Ms. Murray’s Art Class is my response to the reality of 2020-2021 school year. Everything went online in 2020. Early on, I was optimistic that things would return to normal in no time, but it also sparked a thought of ‘what if.’ “What if” we don’t go back to being taught in a physical classroom? Soon after this thought we were notified that we wouldn’t be returning to campus, fueling my thesis. I created my own virtual classroom that in theory could be used as a universal teaching platform for educators. My thesis imagines how my ideal classroom would look and incorporates various elements that express my teaching philosophy.
In short, as a teacher I plan on re-establish the safe space that I grew up with in my classroom, a space where you can be yourself without being judged. I want students to be able to have meaningful conversations and provide the space they need to make sense of the world around them. Education is an excellent place to introduce students to arts integration. Teaching children to connect diverse subjects to an art practice results in providing students with knowledge and skills to help prepare them for the world they will have to face as adults. With my virtual platform I’m encouraging teachers and students to share their interpretations of lessons and art activities, thus establishing a supportive community.
In my digital prototype I have included some of my lesson plans along with student works from different ages and schools. By moving your cursor around the page objects will glow as an indication to click on them. This will lead to different things like current books that I’m using for resources, video tutorials, and more prototype examples. As a teacher, I enjoy sharing my teaching and learning experience.
