Statement

My work is a reflection of my thoughts about life and my past my present and my current stage of development.  It is reflective and intertwined with my past but it is also very much about my state of mind. I am all over the place and sometimes no place at all. I am building a platform to be heard. It’s like a radio to me and I hear the words playing and create from the vibration a pattern to the words. I like to create the bridges between thoughts and the pattern from pictures into words.  I like to create rituals, new paradigms and traditions.

I like to create from what I see and dream. I like to create a world from my past lives and from the life that I want to live. I want to affirm and create templates through all of my feelings, triggers challenges and realities. I want to create from oppression and grief. I want to create from joy and love. I want to translate the unknown. I want to remember and celebrate

The parallels of segregation, oppression, and separateness make me want to create stories and pieces that represent the heart of change. I love the call and response of communication

The movement for black folk, and change are full of possibilities and creativity.

I like the various ways to communicate through art. The variations of invention, intuition, transformation and light.  The way we are in society. The way we are in life. This journey of change will lead me to the bus stops, boxes, the masks, the church, and closets. The response will lead me to open up with vibrancy, with a voice and with courage. Art is courage. It is a place that revives your life, reengages and reignites others to share, teach and grow. Art is humanity.

It is a transformative process that will never change. It will never die and will continue to build makers and community
