Cut & Connect
Cut & Connect is a visual thesis on scissors as a metaphor for personal feelings of disconnection and doubt. Scissors have always intrigued me as imagery representing the meaning of cutting a connection. However, cutting is also about crafting new connections in art. Sometimes we want to get rid of bad connections because we have to. When cutting a string into two pieces, these two pieces can then be tied to a new string, thus creating a new connection. Scissors then become a tool for reimagination.
The animation has five scenes, and the topic of each scene is Life Clock, Becoming Blind, Resilience, Born a Swallow, and Cutting the Unknown. The wall installation which consists of keyframes from the animation is my reaction to the finished animations; an exploration of what cut and connect means.
