“Aiburo Bhaat” is the last meal a bride eats as a bachelor before she gets married. This meal generally consists of fish curry, rice, eggplant fritters, khejur tomato chutney, fish fry, potato fries, lentil curry, and lentil fritters. Some of the dishes could vary, but these are the most common. This tradition has a special plate in my heart as it is shared later between siblings and cousins.
As someone who has grown up with a lot of food around, I wanted to bring the imperfection of raw ingredients that create a perfect memory worth cherishing forever. Connecting the raw ingredients to create memories of happiness is how I connect my work to our theme, Wabi Sabi. Food has a very special place in my heart, and all the traditions I have seen growing up. This is my way of expressing love and gratitude to my family for bringing a lot of joy through traditions that bring everyone together. This piece connects to my love for storytelling, especially tales of my childhood, my roots and culture. I want to continue telling stories of nostalgia, and things that shape who we are.
