Meet MICA's Creatives at Work

From Baltimore to Beijing

In an extraordinary collaboration, the Tree Art Museum in Beijing welcomed the unveiling of The Nostalgic Collection, spearheaded and curated exclusively by 16 diverse alumni from the College. It offers a rare glimpse into the shared experiences and creative journeys of these international Chinese art students.

Isabel Tay ’23

Originally from Singapore, Isabel Tay is now a visual artist and filmmaker based in Portland, Oregon. After graduating with a BFA in Film & Video, Tay began doing camera work for LAIKA, the world-renowed studio behind Kubo and the Two Strings and Coraline.

Avani Dwivedi ’19

Avani Dwivedi is an author and illustrator who grew up in Mumbai, India, and is now living in Jersey City, NJ. Her debut author/illustrated picture book, My Bollywood Dream was published in Spring 2023, and she worked as the illustrator for several books to be published through 2025.

Yona Kohen ’19

Kohen, an international student from Turkey, returned to her hometown of Istanbul after graduating with a General Fine Arts BFA, and began learning and experimenting with traditional Turkish beading techniques. Ottoman prison-work is the inspiration behind here celebrated jewelry brand, recently featured in The New York Times.

Admitted Students

If you are admitted to a program at MICA, here’s what you can expect:

If your application is accepted, you will receive a communication from MICA’s admission team with more information about scholarship, timeline, and next steps.

Confirm your attendance and start the visa process by submitting your Declaration of Intent and paying your Tuition Deposit.

The first step toward studying in the US is to submit your personal, financial, and passport documents to MICA. After receiving them, we will issue your I-20, the document you will need to apply for an F-1 visa to travel to the U.S. You will then need to pay your SEVIS fee.

With your I-20 and visa application, you can schedule your visa interview at a nearby U.S. embassy or consulate. MICA’s Office of International Education and admission team will provide tips and support to help you prepare for your interview! * Canadian Citizens ONLY: You do not need to apply for an F-1 visa online. You will obtain your F-1 visa at the border.

Once you have your visa, let us know and start making your travel plans. International students are permitted to enter the United States up to 30 days prior to the start of classes.
