MICA was officially designated a “Voter Friendly Campus” this month by Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project for its work around student civic engagement.
College and university campuses, in order to receive this designation, are required to engage their campus communities and promote voter registration and voting as part of their institutional mission in order to bolster efforts that help students overcome barriers to participating in the political process and develop a culture of democratic engagement on campus.
“We are thrilled to earn the Voter Friendly Campus designation for 2021-2021 and to be recognized at a national level for our efforts to institutionalize civic and electoral engagement,” MICA’s Voter Access Initiative group said in a statement. “This work would not be possible without our Voter Access Initiative members, and the commitment of our students, staff, and faculty at MICA. With this designation we are honored to join a network of 235 peer institutions and we look forward to our collective work across the country and here at MICA to increase student voter participation and voter education for elections, while also celebrating civic joy year-round.”
