Our next Art@Lunch lecture will be on Wednesday, November 16th. Carl Darling Buck Professor, Darby English will be joining us to give a talk titled "There is Always More to See." In 2007 Professor English wrote a critically acclaimed book entitled How to See a Work of Art in Total Darkness. The latter aimed to counter the primacy given to racial representation in interpretations of the work of Black artists in order to recenter the specificity of the work of art and its capacity to generate analytical frameworks. MICA asked Professor English to address the methodology developed in his book, its relevance and urgency today, and how his subsequent research agenda has and hasn't reflected it.
