The occult has meant many things: that which are not easily understood, or not revealed, or to shut off from view, to hide, and matters involving the supernatural or supernormal. Across cultures and religions, esoteric practices known as occult have both flourished and been oppressed through the ages. From medieval witch hunting to fear and frenzy of satanic subtexts in contemporary culture, the occult has stood for a myriad of practices consistently outside the norm. This display celebrates and explores some of the many occult practices represented in our collection. Curated by Tannaz Motevalli.
