Throughout the last 50 years, suburban sprawl has been shaping up to be the biggest urban revitalization challenge of modern times. In North America, suburbia accounts for a large share of its biggest carbon footprints and obesity rates. The majority of suburbia is due for a retrofit. This thesis focuses on proposing a hypothetical design to revitalize an existing suburban community located in Catonsville, Maryland by integrating urban design strategies in order to transform into a livable and walkable community, a key factor that is constantly lacking within the suburban community.
