I take inspiration from real events and all the everyday stories that surround us. The most powerful element I see in these stories, which guides me in my filmmaking, is the emotions of the characters. Good characters provide sustenance for an audience. Rosen suffers a great tragedy in losing his mother, but his longing for a happy family pushes him to face life again and be brave. Movies capture these human stories in a way that our click-based, fast food culture cannot, and this is the reason I turn back to tradition and pay attention to the shaping of characters.
