My work is composed as a group of oil paintings addressing the idea of loss - the uncatchable leaking away from our hands constantly and unpredictably. Through painting I investigate the loss of loved ones and loss of my childhood home. Through painting I grieve for the loss of certainty in what I believe.
I negotiate with geographies and memories, attempting to build an immersive experience with inclusive space. I narrate stories internally, and then translate a psychical presence by partially blurring representational elements. Visual translations of “events” take place as I objectify emotions and personalize substances into specific symbols with movements.
By experimenting with mark making and paint layering, I attempt to achieve a specific sense of place that suggests the metaphysical aspect of my reality.
