Michael Berryhill

Michael Berryhill was born in El Paso, Texas. He earned his B.F.A. at the University of Texas at Austin and his M.F.A. from Columbia University. He has shown work in New York, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Berlin, Portland, and Austin. In 2007 he completed a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. In 2009 Michael was selected for the space program by the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, a program that grants studio space for one year in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and in February 2014 he was selected to be an artist at the Robert Rauschenberg Residency program in Captiva Island FL.

 

Judy Cooke

Judy Cooke majored in printmaking at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She received her BFA at Tufts University (Medford, MA) and a MAT at Reed College (Portland OR). She has exhibited extensively, including a retrospective at the Art Gym, Marylhurst University (Lake Oswego, OR), and exhibitions at Portland Art Museum (Portland, OR), and Tacoma Art Museum (Tacoma, WA). She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious grants, including the Flintridge Foundation Award for Visual Art (Pasadena, CA). Regional Arts & Culture Council Visual Artist Fellowship Grant (Portland, OR), Oregon Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship in Painting (Salem, OR) and the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship. Her work is included in the collections of the Portland Art Museum (Portland, OR), Tacoma Art Museum (Tacoma, WA), School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA), and Boise Art Museum (Boise, ID), among many others.

 

Kyle Staver

Kyle Staverʼs paintings are figurative and large in scale and scope, with subjects often drawn from mythology and biblical images. A student of art history, the works are inspired by, and in conversion with masters from history including Titian, Rembrandt, and Picasso.

The artist uses scumbling and glazing to achieve an active painting surface, giving the paintings depth and space. The surfaces are punctuated by dabs of saturated color which play off of large swaths of darker tones underneath, imbuing the paintings with weightiness and mystery. The paintings become a visceral experience, were every area of the composition is activated.

Staver is from Minnesota and received her MFA from Yale School of Art. She has exhibited throughout the United States, and has been a recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and the Benjamin Altman Figure Prize from the national Academy Museum, New York.

 

Gregory Amenoff

Gregory Amenoff is a painter who lives in New York City and Ulster County, New York. He is the recipient of numerous awards from organizations including the American Academy of Arts and Letters, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and the Tiffany Foundation. He has had over fifty one-person exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. His work is in the permanent collections of more than thirty museums, including the Whitney Museum of America Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Amenoff served as President of the National Academy of Design from 2001-2005. He is a founding board member of the CUE Art Foundation in New York City and serves as the CUE Art Foundation's Curator Governor. Amenoff has taught at Columbia for the last eighteen years, where he holds the Eve and Herman Gelman Chair of Visual Arts and served as the Chair of the Visual Arts Division in the School of the Arts .from 2007-2013 In 2011 he received the John Solomon Guggenheim Fellowship.

Amenoff is represented by Alexandre Gallery in New York City.

 

Andrea Belag

Andrea Belag received a Guggenheim Fellowship for Painting in 1999 and was a fellow at the Rockefeller Foundationʼs Bellagio Study Center in Italy in 2003. Recent exhibitions of paintings include: Advanced Painting, Edward Thorp Gallery, NY, 2013; Broken/Window/Pane, curated by John Yau, Tracey Williams Gallery, NY, 2012; Reverie, Zurcher Gallery, NY, 2011; Mike Weiss Gallery NY in 2007; Bill Maynes Gallery, NY, in 2003 and Galerie Heinz Holtmann, Cologne, in 2002. She resides in New York City and is a faculty member in School of Visual Arts.

 

Alexi Worth

Alexi Belsey Worth has had solo exhibitions with the Elizabeth Harris, Bill Maynes, and DC Moore galleries, among others. Recent group exhibitions include "Open Windows," curated by Carroll Dunham at the Addison Gallery in Andover MA; "Private Future," curated by Michael Cline at Mark Jancou, NY; and "In A Violet Distance," curated by David Humphey at Zurcher Studio, NY. He has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Tiffany Foundation, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. He is currently represented by DC Moore, where his next solo show is scheduled for spring 2013.

In addition to his painting, Worth has written about art for The New Yorker, Artforum, T magazine, Art in America, ARTnews, Slate, and other magazines. He has written catalog texts for artists such as Martha Armstrong, Carroll Dunham, David Humphrey, James Hyde, Susan Jennings, Jackie Saccoccio, George Nick, Jim Nutt, and Philip Pearlstein. Worth has taught at various BFA and MFA programs, including the University of Pennsylvania and the Yale School of Art. Born and raised in New York City, he attended Yale University (BA 1986) and Boston University (MFA 1993). Worth lives in Brooklyn NY with his wife, the architect Erika Belsey, and their two boys.

 

Gideon Bok

Gideon Bok received a BA from Hampshire College in 1992 and an MFA from Yale School of Art in 1996. Working from perception, he makes oil on canvas and panel paintings and large-scale temporary drawing installations, and also makes occaisional sound-art collaborations, photographs and etchings, among other things. He is represented by Alpha Gallery in Boston, and by Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in New York. He currently has a show at the Barry Whistler Gallery in Dallas, and another one coming up at SHFAP in New York in February, 2014. He is the recipient of a purchase award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship and an ART award by the Berkshire Taconic Arts Foundation. He has taught at the New York Studio School, Hampshire College, Yale Norfolk Program, among other places, and is currently teaching at the College of Fine Arts at Boston University.

 

Jessica Dickinson

Jessica Dickinsonʼs abstract paintings are layered over an extended period of time through repeated additive and subtractive procedures with oil on a plaster like surface. Events of marking, scraping, covering, cutting into and revealing are compressed as the paintings unfold actions of chance, change, and intention over time. Dickinsonʼs decelerated works have the feeling of exposed surfaces moving through different states, where matter asserts itself as something impenetrable while at the same time vulnerable.

Dickinson was born in St. Paul, MN and is based in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Recent solo exhibitions include Altman Siegel Gallery in San Francisco (2013), David Peterson Gallery in Minneapolis (2013), Maisterravalbuena in Madrid (2012) and James Fuentes in New York (2011, 2009 ). Numerous group exhibitions include Eleni Koroneou Gallery, Athens; Biennale Online 2013 selection by Nancy Spector, Painting from the Zabludowicz Collection: Painting in the 2.5th Dimension in London; Come Through at Sikkema Jenkins, NY; and Besides, With, Against, and Yet: Abstraction and The Ready Made Gesture at The Kitchen, NY. Dickinsonʼs solo exhibitions have been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, and The New Yorker, among others. Her awards include a Farpath Grant in Dijon France (2008), a Change, Inc grant (2003), and The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Program (2001). Dickinson is currently a critic in graduate painting at Yale School of Art.

 

Sonia Almeida

Sonia Almeida was born in 1978 in Lisbon, Portugal. She lives and works in Boston, MA, and is currently represented by the Simone Subal Gallery in New York City. She obtained her BA, with honors, in 2001 from the Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. In 2006 she received her Master of Fine Arts, from the Painting Department, at the University College London, Slade School of Fine Art. In 2014, Almeida will have a solo show at MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, MA, opening February 7th and running till April 6.
