The Dr. Frankie Martin D&I Grant is available for students who have ACTIVELY participated in Culture & Identity programs and/or DEIG related initiatives that support MICA's mission of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Each year, funds are generated from ticket sales of the Annual Benefit Fashion Show (ABFS) sponsored by Culture & Identity. Profits from the show provide additional financial assistance for students who experience an unexpected financial hardship.
Eligibility:
1. Full-time MICA student
2. ACTIVELY participated in programs (ABFS, C&I Connections, Exhibitions, Community Art & Service, etc.)
3. Experience an unexpected financial hardship/emergency
4. Have not reached the maximum amount of financial assistance or submissions
5. Creates work that engages with various aspects of community, culture and identity
**Each request will be considered by a small, confidential group within the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Depending upon the nature of the request, it is possible that a meeting with a member of the committee will be required before a decision is made on the application.
Scholarships Available:
The amount of financial support available is limited to no more than $300 for any one request. Eligible students may only receive ONE GRANT per ACADEMIC YEAR, and a MAXIMUM of TWICE during their MICA career.
Grants vary in amount. Examples of items eligible for assistance due to short term financial hardship include but are not limited to:
- Summer study abroad programs* (Student must be admitted to the program)
- Internships
- Independent Study
- Food
- Emergency Travel
- Senior Thesis
- Academic related art supplies/materials
**Due to the likely high amount needed and the long term implication of the financial problem; tuition, utilities
and rent/housing (on or off-campus) are not eligible for assistance.
**The committee does not provide reimbursement for previously purchased materials.
