Combined Sessions: You must choose one course from the Session 1 course offerings and one course from the Session 2 course offerings.
Monday - Friday students attend their studio course, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For residential students, during those non-class hours, our vibrant community of undergraduate students takes the reins and hosts a variety of optional programming activities and workshops, all designed to ignite students' creativity and passion.
Residential students will have a chance to experience a Saturday field trip during each session, allowing students to handpick visits to local museums and events, tailored to their interests and structured to uncover artistic inspiration that goes beyond the studio.
Yes. Students who earn a C or higher in their PreCollege course will receive college credits. MICA accepts these credits should the student attend Undergraduate Studies at MICA. All other institutions are subject to their individual approval process.
PreCollege application opens November 1st each year.

While highly encouraged, COVID-19 vaccinations are not required to attend the program.
In general, proof of vaccinations or appropriate waivers may be requested by MICA's Health Center.
The PreCollege application costs $25. After the deadline, students will receive a decision within two weeks. At that time, a $250 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot in the program. The deposit goes towards the program tuition cost.
Applicants must submit a complete application, including a portfolio of 4 pieces online through Slideroom.
Any student interested in being considered for need based financial assistance, or merit scholarship can select this option as part of the general application. Please note anyone requesting need based financial assistance will need to include additional documentation. We highly recommend if applying for financial assistant that students apply by the priority early deadline.
In the residency option of the MICA PreCollege Program you will have a current MICA undergraduate student called a Community Assistant to show you around MICA campus and host programs and events that immerse you into the MICA community and give you a creative lens of the city outside of your academics.
Yes. Students in the PreCollege program receive a one on one portfolio review with an admissions counselor to receive feedback on how to strengthen their portfolio in preparation for their MICA college application.
If a student drops before the start of the program, the program cost (not including the $250 non-refundable deposit) will be refunded. After the start of the program, please submit a written request to precollege@mica.edu including your full name, PreCollege session and any details pertaining to your drop from the program that can be reviewed for refund consideration.
Yes we offer financial assistance. When your student applies to the program, the application will ask if you are in need of financial assistance. Select Y or N. Please note we strongly recommend that any students seeking financial assistance apply by the priority early deadline.
The deadline for final payment is May 15, 2025. Please contact the Office of Open Studies to set up a payment plan at (410) 225-2219.
There is an on-campus laundry room within feet of the residence hall. Only quarters are excepted for washer and dryer machines ($1.50 for each load) and students are expected to bring quarters if utilizing laundry machines.
In the event that the MICA campus is closed due to inclement weather, please note refunds will not be issued for any weather related closures, including but not limited to snow, storms, and power outages.
On the last class day of each session, there will be a final ceremony (4 pm) and exhibition (6-8 pm) to celebrate each student’s accomplishments. Students can walk across a stage and receive their certificate of completion. Each student will display work in the exhibition. The exhibition is in-person on MICA campus and open to family, friends, and guardians.

Your MICard, your MICA photo ID, is necessary for accessing campus. Attending students must complete the Google Form to ensure their ID is ready on Move-in day. MICards grant access to campus facilities, meal plans, campus shopping, vending machines, and print services.
Campus Safety officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In addition, an off-duty Baltimore City Police officer patrols the campus during the evening hours when classes are in session.
Security guards and student monitors at Campus Safety desks near the entrances of most academic buildings are the eyes and ears of MICA.
We welcome international students to the PreCollege program! There are 3 important criteria that must be considered:
- International students will need to submit proof of English Language Proficiency.
- International students will need to provide a copy of their valid passport as part of the application and will be required to obtain an F-1 visa (if appropriate) in order to attend.
- International students will be required to purchase a short term health insurance plan (SHIP) from MICA.
