Statement
With over 10,000 types of grape varieties grown throughout the world, and more than 300 used for wine today, it can be overwhelming to find the perfect bottle of wine to order on a date or bring to a dinner party. What’s Your VinoType? is a web interactive data visualization project that aims to eliminate the complexity around understanding and discovering your unique wine flavor preferences. Similar to how personalities are classified in Myers Briggs with a four-letter acronym, What’s Your VinoType? presents a new way to classify people by their wine preferences using four prominent wine characteristics. Through the use of an interactive website and survey, users can answer four questions around what they enjoy in a glass of wine and will be presented with their VinoType (or wine “persona”) which includes a visualization of the 4 characteristics, a word cloud of the most commonly used descriptors, and interactive tables and sliders to learn about the most popular varietals and wines that meet their match.
