A confidential medical record is established and maintained for every student who receives care. The confidentiality of a student's medical records information is protected under the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Maryland state law and/or MICA Policy, as applicable.

If a student is 18 years or older, information cannot be released, even to parents, without the student's written permission unless permitted under FERPA. Releases of a student's confidential information permitted under FERPA include disclosures in response to a subpoena or in a health and safety emergency.
