Communal Tool Station & Policy

Communal Tool Station

Inaugural to the Fall 2024 semester, the Fiber department has a Communal Tool Station located in s206. The tools are available during open building hours, to all students currently enrolled in a Fiber course. Tools should be shared and should remain in the department at all times. Tools should be used and returned within the same working day.

If you need to check out a tool for an extended period, please visit the Tool Crib during Open Hours.

Below you will find policies relating to tool usage:

  • Return all tools to their specific bin or wall-hanging spot at the Communal Tool station when you are finished using it.
  • Tools should be used and returned back within the same working day
  • Communal Tools do not need to be checked out. Please be mindful of usage, tool availability and the community. These tools should be available to ALL.
  • DO NOT take the communal tools out of the department
  • DO NOT return Irons that are still HOT! Leave Hot Irons on the Ironing boards until they have cooled before returning
  • DO NOT store communal tools in lockers
  • Report any issues or broken tools to Fiber Studio Manager, Jenelle Legge. Place them in the “Broken Tool” bin, or visit the Tool Crib to report.

Environmental Health & Safety Information

Please review the attached PowerPoint for Environmental Health & Safety Information. Afterward, complete the EHS quizzes on your course's Canvas page. You only need to complete quizzes for one Fiber course, even if you are enrolled in multiple Fiber courses.

We hope you have a safe and productive semester in the Fiber Studios. Please let us know if you have any concerns.
