D. Alan Orr holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge. His research and teaching interests focus on the intellectual and cultural history of early modern Britain and Ireland (1500-1800).
His book, Treason and the State: Law, Politics, and Ideology in the English Civil War, appeared with Cambridge University Press in 2002 (paperback 2007). He has subsequently published articles in leading peer-reviewed venues including The Historical Journal, Huntington Library Quarterly, Journal of British Studies, Journal of the History of Ideas, Reformation and Renaissance Review, and Sixteenth Century Journal. He is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and in 2024 was winner of the Baltimore Sun’s readers' poll as “Best Professor.” He has taught at MICA since 2004.
