The the Fred Lazarus IV Center is the hub of graduate student life at MICA. Home to MFA programs including Curatorial Practice, the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, Mount Royal School of Art, Photography + Media & Society, and the Rinehart School of Sculpture, and the MA in Social Design program, it also includes independent studio spaces for seniors in Drawing, Painting, and GFA BFA programs.
The Center's Sheila & Richard Riggs Gallery and Leidy Gallery are designed to energize the Station North Arts and Entertainment District through their use as a street-level, publicly accessible exhibition spaces.
The Lazarus Center houses 177 studios, as well as digital, computer, and photo labs, a fabrication workshop, and spray booths.
Nancy cafe is adjacent to the Sheila & Richard Riggs Gallery. While it caters to the MICA family, the space welcomes residents from the Station North neighborhood and beyond.
“Having everyone in the same building — this graduate community in the Lazarus Center — we have more interactions than we would have elsewhere. We’ve built a very strong community, and we’ve added, I think, to the neighborhood. Being able to build a network beyond your program is critical for discourse in art. It has definitely strengthened my studies have and work.” - Heather Braxton ’16, Photographic and Electronic Media MFA
