Madalyn Drewno
Statement
Hello! My name is Madalyn Drewno and I am an Illustrator from Denver, CO. In my illustration practice I want to be part of a larger discourse by engaging with a range of stories and perspectives. Thus, it is my goal to work in editorial illustration, where I can use both narrative and conceptual thinking to solve visual problems.
For the exhibition, I chose three articles to illustrate. Two of the illustrations are based on articles that describe the struggles in trying to attain perfection, whether it be in online dating or in the products we consume. The third illustration is for an article that provides mindfulness strategies that allow us to gain distance from our obsessive thoughts and accept what is already here.
Other topics I am interested in illustrating include Asian-American experiences and Asian culture, stories that deal with difficult emotions like loneliness and anger, and stories that challenge dominant narratives.
